Primary Eye Care
PRIMARY EYE CARE includes a comprehensive vision and eye health examination. This examination is designed to detect a wide range of problems affecting vision function, such as blurred vision or eye discomfort.
Evaluations for eye health disorders are also performed. The American Optometric Association recommends that all people should have a periodic, comprehensive eye examination every one to two years depending on ones particular needs.
Here at our office we incorporate computerized technology to assist the evaluation of spectacle prescriptions, peripheral vision, intraocular pressure, and eye health. Computerized examination instruments are used to supplement rather than replace personalized care. Examinations include tests for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and the ocular effects of many general health disorders such as diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as effects of medications. A dilated pupil examination allows us to provide the best assessment of eye health. It is recommended for all new patients and on a scheduled basis thereafter.
When you visit our office for a routine examination or for a new prescription, you want to be confident that the results from your eye test are 100 percent accurate. If you have myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, or presbyopia, an eye test will determine your percentage of "refractive error." This, of course, ensures that your glasses or contact lenses will be produced correctly to provide you with clear vision.
The EPIC-autorefractor has the capability of allowing us to make an immediate comparison between your current refractive reading, your old prescription, and your new prescription. The end result is a very precise diagnosis of your vision. Best of all, the process is completed quickly, saving you time - a precious commodity in today's fast paced world.

The optomap® retinal image gives eye-care professionals a much larger view (200 degrees) of the back of the eye - your retina - than conventional eye exam equipment. The images can be taken without dilating your pupils - a very common procedure which is uncomfortable and inconvenient for many people.
The optomap® image is captured in less than a second and is immediately available for doctor and patient to review. The optomap® Retinal Exam offers many clinical, practice and patient benefits.
The optomap® image is displayed immediately after being taken, allowing the eye care professional to review it quickly and if necessary, refer you to a retinal specialist. Using the internet, the image can be sent anywhere in the world for a specialist to review.

The OCT instrument utilizes a technique called optical coherence tomography which creates images by use of special beams of light. The OCT machine can create a contour map of the optic nerve, optic cup and measure the retinal nerve fiber thickness
